Trans Tasman IP Attorney Board
The Trans-Tasman IP Attorneys Board (the Board) is a statutory body established under section 227A of the Patents Act 1990 and constituted under the Patents Regulations 1991. We are responsible for administering the regulatory and disciplinary regimes for patent and trade marks attorneys in Australia and New Zealand.

Code of Conduct 2018

The Trans-Tasman IP Attorneys Board has made the Code of Conduct for Trans-Tasman Patent and Trade Marks Attorneys 2018 (Code of Conduct 2018) and the Guidelines to the Code of Conduct 2018. The Code of Conduct 2018 commences on 23 February 2018 and replaces the Code of Conduct for Patent and Trade Marks Attorneys 2013.

Transitional Period to Register as a Trade Marks Attorney Closing Soon

The trans-Tasman patent attorney regime commenced on 24 February 2017. Under this regime, regulation 22.15 of the Trade Marks Regulations 1995 (Cth) allows persons who were registered as a patent attorney in New Zealand immediately before the commencement date to apply for registration as an Australian Trade Marks Attorney. Interested attorneys are reminded that applications for registration under regulation 22.15 need to be received by the Designated Manager on or before 26 February 2018. Applications received after this date will not be processed.

Candidates Sought for the Trans-Tasman IP Attorneys Board

The Trans-Tasman IP Attorneys Board will have a vacant position from late June 2018 for a New Zealand representative of the patent attorney profession.

The New Zealand Government is seeking a New Zealand resident with substantial experience, knowledge and standing in the patent attorney practise to serve on the Board.

The closing date for applications to be received by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment is 5.00pm on Monday, 19 March 2018. Please apply through the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment careers website and search for MBIE/1317507.
